This school is based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and is looking for a Director of Finance and Operations

 

Summary
The role of the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) is to oversee all financial and operations aspects critical to the ongoing success and growth of TIS. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with deep experience leading teams and who possesses a profound understanding of financial management, strategic planning, and operational excellence (facilities, security, and other key focus areas). The DFO leads planning, development and the implementation of an operations management and development strategy to meet agreed performance targets, including budgetary targets.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Build, lead and evaluate an effective and cohesive team across all operational areas.
● Ensure that operational functions of the school are effectively and efficiently run so that each department performs in terms of its clearly communicated strategic goals.
● Implement, maintain and manage an effective range of systems, practices, and controls throughout the department. Ensures that reporting and communications clearly reflect them.
● Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in finance and operations in the international school sector, and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
● Develop professional standards and operating procedures for each department in line with the industry guidelines and TIS’s unique requirements.
● Develop and manage the school’s annual budget within relevant timelines, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic goals.
● Provide financial analysis and reporting to the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and other stakeholders, highlighting key financial indicators and making recommendations
● Oversee the school’s accounting processes and personnel, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
● Own the procurement process and its strategic evolution, ensuring contacts are negotiated, and relationships with vendors and suppliers are maintained and streamlined to optimize purchasing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and effective inventory management, as applicable.
● Develop, evolve, and implement clear policies and procedures for all focus areas.
● Implements centralized health and safety standards that ensure school environment optimisation for all (including catering) and ensures easy emulation and compliance.
● Liaise with the Technology team to deliver efficient and reliable solutions for all.
● Create a culture of accountability, ensuring that operational objectives and performance standards are owned by both management, stakeholders, and their team.
● Manage and guide outsourced functions such as Catering. Evaluates other opportunities.
● Manage and control operations department expenditure within agreed budgets, liaise with the Finance department to monitor and report on the expenditure
● Serve as a link between Operations and Education Faculty staff members and activities
● As required serve as a member of Administration and/or School Board committees

 

Minimum Qualification
● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field (Graduate degree preferred).
● Solid understanding of operational and financial best practices, facilities management, security protocols, and health and safety regulations.
● Proven experience overseeing financial management, ideally in an educational or non-profit setting.
● Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial analysis.
● Recent Operations experience at an international school is a plus.
● Fluency in English; proficiency in Russian desired.
● Strong knowledge of international customs and law is preferred.
