This school is based in Isa, Bahrain and is looking for a Substitute Early Years English Teacher – Maternity Leave Cover.

Job Purpose: To provide students with a stimulating learning environment based on the IB constructivist/inquiry-based approach. This position aims to benefit students through a rigorously differentiated curriculum and facilitate global citizenship to help prepare students to become well-rounded individuals.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Skills of Classroom Environment:
  • Implement and adhere to ABS Guiding Statements, Assessment Policy, Language Policy, Homework Policy, Behaviour Management Policy, and other relevant policies.
  • Understand and apply the Curriculum Framework for International Primary Education, Programme Standards and Practices, Programme of Inquiry, and Units of Inquiry.
  • Familiarize with Scope and Sequence documents for each curriculum area and understand the sections responsible for.

 

Special Emphasis Areas:
  • Trans-disciplinary Teaching: Demonstrate current and appropriate knowledge of all subjects taught and their interconnections.
  • Inquiry and Constructivism: Organize all learning experiences to include constructivist theory, especially using inquiry as a pedagogical approach.
  • Preparation: Maximize instructional time through prior preparation.
  • Comprehensive Assessment: Utilize a variety of pre, formative, and summative assessment strategies to help students become proficient and self-directed learners. Use assessment results to develop teaching and learning strategies and to make curricular changes.
  • Variety of Instructional Strategies: Use diverse teaching methodologies, minimizing reliance on textbooks, worksheets, and lectures.
  • Differentiation: Address individual needs, especially of additional language learners. Regularly group and regroup students in various ways.

 

Well-Being / Homeroom Expectations:
  • Role model the IB Learner Profile attributes and attitudes, promoting positive behavior.
  • Collaborate with students to initiate a set of Essential Agreements at the beginning of the year.
  • Work with specialists to provide consistent expectations and reinforcement for students.
  • Use professional judgment, discretion, and good sense when responding to incidents or concerns.
  • Facilitate the Well-Being Programme embedded in the PYP curriculum.
  • Attend Grade Level meetings as scheduled by the Grade Leader.
  • Help administer CEM testing as administered by the Deputy Head (Well-Being)/Grade Leader.
  • Participate in Fire/Lockdown Drills and orientation transition meetings for students.
  • Monitor the implementation of Primary School Discipline Procedures and report to the Grade Leader as needed.
  • Communicate with parents on issues related to the well-being of students.

 

Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • A degree in related fields.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in teaching the subject.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, ICT, and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferably bilingual in English and Arabic.

  • Arab Heritage: Promote Arab heritage through the PYP Well-Being embedded curriculum and Grade Level activities/assemblies.
  • Life-Long Learning: Ensure the Well-Being programme promotes life-long lessons/concepts and AL-TARBIYEH.
  • Teamwork: Promote the School in the community and undertake additional duties assigned by the Primary School. Ensure parents receive clear student expectations, policies, rules, and procedures. Implement the communication structure and emergency protocols.
  • Achievement: Oversee CEM testing, track value-added made by students, and disseminate results.
  • Responsibility: Adhere to job description responsibilities.
  • Bilingualism: Ensure the Well-Being programme is bilingual through a range of activities.
  • International Mindedness: Adopt the CIS definition of Global Citizenship and follow the UN Global Citizenship curriculum. Ensure international standards in well-being, safeguarding, and achievement.
  • Youth Empowerment: Provide students access to leadership opportunities and facilities to voice opinions.
  • Excellence: Support students with an excellent Well-Being Programme and network of counsellors. Adhere to child safeguarding practices.
  • Holistic Education: Ensure the curriculum is balanced with co-curricular activities for holistic development of students.
