Position Overview: The English Home Language Teacher will be responsible for teaching English Home Language from Grades 8 to 12. The successful candidate will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that caters to diverse learning styles and abilities, inspiring students to improve their language skills at their own pace. This role involves developing engaging lesson plans, setting senior exam papers, and participating in all aspects of school life, including pastoral, academic, sporting, and cultural activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach English Home Language to students from Grades 8 to 12.
  • Develop and deliver engaging English lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide English support sessions outside of lesson times.
  • Develop creative and stimulating learning materials.
  • Set senior exam papers and gain experience in external marking.
  • Utilize IT proficiently in all aspects of work.
  • Contribute to the pastoral, academic, sporting, and cultural life of the school.
  • Work effectively as a member of a diverse team dedicated to the development and care of all pupils.


Qualifications and Experience:
  • Major in English and suitable experience in teaching English Home Language from Grades 8 to 12.
  • Experience in teaching English HL to students with barriers to learning and non-mother tongue speakers.
  • Highly proficient in IT and experience with its application in teaching.
  • Experience in setting senior exam papers and external marking or willingness to gain experience.
  • Proven ability to produce creative and stimulating learning material.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Member of SACE and South African Citizen.
