Role Overview: Head of Physics
The Head of Physics will lead the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of the Physics curriculum from Key Stage 3 through A-Level. This leadership role involves mentoring science teachers, coordinating assessments, and ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning across the department. You will actively engage with students, staff, and parents to foster a love for science and create opportunities for academic growth and enrichment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead curriculum planning and instruction for Physics at all secondary levels
- Coach and support science department colleagues to deliver best teaching practices
- Use data to track student progress and implement effective intervention strategies
- Organize science-related events, clubs, and competitions to boost student engagement
- Promote the use of digital tools to enhance teaching and learning outcomes
- Build strong relationships with parents and colleagues to support holistic development
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and represent the science department in leadership meetings
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics or a closely related field
- Recognized teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, or international equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a teaching or leadership role in Physics
- Deep knowledge of Physics and proven success with the British curriculum
- Excellent classroom management and team leadership skills
- High level of proficiency in spoken and written English
- Enthusiastic, organized, and proactive in departmental and whole-school development
