Role Overview: High School English Teacher
The successful candidate will design and implement engaging English Language Arts lessons that meet Alberta curriculum standards. This role involves teaching literature, writing, speaking, and media studies to high school students while helping them build critical language and communication skills essential for post-secondary education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Alberta curriculum-based English instruction in an engaging and structured manner
- Plan and assess student learning using formative and summative tools
- Develop differentiated instruction that supports diverse learning needs
- Promote a positive and respectful classroom culture
- Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding progress and expectations
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum delivery and academic planning
- Participate in school events, clubs, and professional development sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
- Valid teaching certification (e.g., Alberta Certificate, QTS, PGCE, B.Ed.)
- Minimum 3 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in a high school setting
- Familiarity with the Alberta curriculum or other international frameworks
- Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
- Excellent English proficiency (spoken and written)
- Ability to integrate educational technology into daily teaching
- Collaborative, student-centered, and committed to continuous learning
