Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the crucial role of High School Mathematics Teacher (teaching students typically Years 9-12). This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across the senior mathematics sequence, including preparing students for IB Diploma Programme Mathematics courses (Analysis and Approaches and/or Applications and Interpretation).
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous Mathematics courses across the High School setting (Years 9-12). Align instruction strictly with the Australian Curriculum standards (Years 9-10) and IB DP Mathematics specifications (Years 11-12).
- Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced problem-solving, internal assessment (IA) completion, and preparation for final IB examinations.
- Guide students meticulously through both core and advanced mathematical concepts, ensuring strong conceptual understanding and application skills.
- Assess student work consistently using IB criteria and school standards. Provide constructive, detailed feedback to drive measurable improvement in examination technique and conceptual depth.
- Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to mathematical discourse and exploration.
- Collaborate effectively with Secondary colleagues, the Head of Department, and the IB Coordinator on curriculum articulation, resource development, and moderation.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment (e.g., math competitions) and wider school initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics Education, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, Australian Teaching Certification, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary Mathematics.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary Mathematics, ideally within an international school setting. Significant experience teaching the IB Diploma Programme (DP) Mathematics is essential.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and the IB DP Mathematics framework.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
