Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of High School English Teacher within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP). This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver a rigorous English Language and Literature curriculum. You will lead a dynamic learning environment, ensuring students master complex literary analysis, rhetorical strategies, and academic writing.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality English lessons that align fully with IB DP frameworks and assessment requirements.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote inquiry-based learning and the deep analysis of diverse literary and non-literary texts.
- Guide and mentor students through the Internal Assessment (IA) process and the Extended Essay (EE) in English.
- Assess student progress consistently using IB-specific rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for examination preparation.
- Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to express their ideas and opinions with confidence.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and IB coordinators to refine curriculum delivery and ensure vertical alignment.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as digital archives and collaborative writing tools, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as debate clubs, creative writing workshops, or student publications.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and international IB workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature, Language, or a related field of education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary education.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary English teaching position.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and international curricula.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
