Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of IGCSE Physics Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous IGCSE Physics units. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge IGCSE Physics syllabi requirements and SIS’s learning standards.
• Develop and execute practical laboratory experiments safely and effectively, promoting strong investigative and hands-on skills essential for the IGCSE practical assessment component.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced problem-solving, mathematical application in physics, theoretical understanding, and strong examination technique.
• Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with Cambridge examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Head of Secondary on curriculum mapping, vertical alignment across the sciences, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
• Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives, such as leading a STEM club or robotics team (CCAs).
• Ability to use new technologies (e.g., Google Workspace, data loggers, simulation software) to effectively enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Science Education (Physics focus), or a closely related STEM field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary Science teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary Physics, with significant, verified experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE Physics syllabi being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge IGCSE Physics syllabus and its assessment requirements, including the practical component.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom/lab management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
