Role: Lead Teacher of English
As the Lead Teacher of English, you will play a central role in shaping and delivering the English curriculum from Year 7 through to IGCSE. You will work collaboratively to develop innovative learning experiences aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum. You will also support students in achieving academic excellence while fostering a love for English language and literature.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and differentiated English Language and Literature lessons
- Prepare students for IGCSE English examinations in Year 11
- Guide the implementation of the Cambridge English curriculum in the Senior School
- Support continuity between Junior and Senior School English programmes
- Serve as a Form Tutor and provide consistent pastoral care
- Build effective communication with parents to discuss student progress
- Incorporate technology to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment
- Monitor academic performance using both formative and summative assessment tools
- Foster an inclusive classroom that supports diverse learning needs, including EAL learners
- Contribute to co-curricular activities such as literary clubs and enrichment programmes
- Engage in continuous professional development and support colleagues as a curriculum leader
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field
- Recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching English at Key Stage 3 and IGCSE level
- Expertise in English language acquisition and EAL support strategies
- Proven ability to lead curriculum planning and team collaboration
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English
- Independent, proactive, and committed to innovation in teaching
- Ability to develop strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
- Skilled in using digital tools to support learning outcomes
