The Secondary Library Assistant at The Inter-Community School Zurich (ICS) plays a crucial role in supporting the educational objectives of the school by maintaining an organized and welcoming library environment. This position involves working closely with students and staff to ensure they have access to a wide range of resources and services that cater to their educational, informational, recreational, and cultural needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Library Environment:
    • Maintain a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing library environment.
    • Ensure the library is conducive to productive independent and collaborative work.
  • Instruction and Support:
    • Instruct students in the proper use of the library and its resources.
    • Provide support and assistance with library equipment, including audiovisual tools and computers.
  • Library Management:
    • Catalogue and process library collections; shelve materials and update catalogues, indexes, and lists.
    • Create and maintain library exhibits, display boards, posters, and signage.
    • Participate in the selection and ordering of library books and materials; research publishers for best prices and manage purchase requisitions and orders.
    • Manage and coordinate subscriptions and library schedules with staff members.
  • Collaboration and Meetings:
    • Actively participate in staff and department meetings.
    • Contribute to a positive school climate of collegiality and collaboration.

 

Candidate Requirements:
  • Experience working in a school library or a library-related field, particularly with secondary and high school students.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Open-minded, flexible, and enjoy working independently while also seeking advice when needed.
  • Team-oriented and willing to learn, with a positive attitude and sense of humor.
  • Strong communicator with attention to detail and empathy towards teachers, students, and parents.
  • Comfortable with technology and willing to try new ideas.
  • Understanding and empathy towards international education and the International Baccalaureate.

Terms and Conditions:
  • Initial contract of three years, renewable.
