This school is based in Hünnenberg, Switzerland and is looking for a German Assistant Teacher.

The German Assistant Teacher will work alongside and under the guidance of the German Classroom Teacher, supporting students in their German language acquisition from Early Years (EY) to Grade 1. This role requires high levels of self-management, flexibility, and responsiveness to children’s needs. A proactive disposition and a passion for teaching are essential. Ideal candidates will have experience working with young children and possess knowledge of child development. Fluency in German and English is required. Additionally, all teachers and assistant teachers are expected to participate in after-school activities, the sports programme, and attend staff meetings as required.

Areas of Responsibility:
Professional Responsibilities:
  • Ensure student safety and well-being is central.
  • Engage reflectively in ongoing growth and improvement.
  • Establish positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Contribute to the school’s development through mission-aligned projects.
  • Commit to expanding student options through after-school activities or coaching.

 

Learning Design:
  • Plan and collaborate regularly with the German Classroom Teacher to support all children in the classroom.
  • Actively engage in all aspects of the children’s day, including transitions, specialist subjects, outdoor learning, and lunchtimes.
  • Use technology and software to document and personalize learning experiences.
  • Be aware of student diversity (cultural, linguistic, learning strengths) when interacting with students.

 

Learning Facilitation:
  • Create a safe and motivating environment where students are encouraged to stretch themselves.
  • Model and promote positive learning behaviors, ensuring students adhere to excellent and ethical standards.
  • Employ diverse teaching strategies and resources to cater to various learning styles.
  • Empower students to take responsibility and action where appropriate.
  • Actively involve students in their learning process.

 

Assessment:
  • Use a range of strategies for assessing and recording student progress under the guidance of the German Classroom Teacher.

 

Required and Preferred Qualifications:
  • Swiss/EU/EFTA passport holders or Swiss permit holders.
  • Fluency in German and English is required.
