This school is based in Zurich, Switzerland and is looking for a Music Teacher.

The Inter-Community School Zurich (ICS) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Music Teacher to join our team for a maternity cover position. Located in the picturesque village of Zumikon near Zurich, ICS is renowned for its supportive learning environment and commitment to academic excellence.

Position Summary: As a Music Teacher, you will play a crucial role in guiding our secondary school students (Grades 6-10) on their path to IB exams, university, and future career choices. You will promote learning and personal growth by building on students’ natural talents and fostering a collaborative and supportive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
  • Teach IB MYP Music classes (Grades 6-10).
  • Support and, if appropriate, facilitate music productions at ICS, including those serving the curriculum (e.g., Grade 11 and 12 Theatre Productions).
  • Support performing arts extracurricular activities.
  • Suggest developments for music-related resources and facilities.
  • Use technology to enhance learning.

 

Assessment and Reporting:
  • Ensure assessments support ongoing learning and provide timely, relevant feedback to students.
  • Monitor, assess, and record each child’s progress, setting targets as needed.
  • Communicate proactively with parents about their children’s learning.
  • Inform tutors and the Secondary Pastoral Leadership Team about student welfare, achievement, and behavior issues.
  • Record and report student progress following school procedures.
  • Attend Parent Teacher Conferences to provide feedback on students’ progress, attainment, and learning targets.

 

Curriculum Development:
  • Plan and deliver units and lessons for relevant classes.
  • Teach the Personal Development Programme to your tutor class.
  • Participate in the co-teaching model where appropriate.
  • Ensure curriculum plans are up-to-date for the grade levels you teach.
  • Construct learning activities that challenge students and demonstrate an understanding of their diverse needs.

 

Social and Emotional Support:
  • Support the social and emotional well-being of students.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management, understanding the academic, social, and emotional dimensions of learning.
  • Assist with the development of children’s personal, social, and language abilities.
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment.

 

Collaborative Culture:
  • Contribute positively to team and secondary meetings.
  • Liaise with the Head of Department and IB Coordinators to meet programme requirements.
  • Contribute to the field trip programme.
  • Support the school’s policies and general ethos.
  • Adhere to Secondary School deadlines.
  • Assist with class cover for absent colleagues and the administration of exams.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities to enhance the school experience for learners.

 

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current classroom teacher qualification to teach Music at Secondary level.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent and relevant classroom experience.
  • Experience in an international school environment is advantageous.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Experience teaching learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Performing Arts pedagogy.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of children aged 12-18.
  • Empathy and strong social skills.
  • Documented record of excellence in teaching.
  • Valid Swiss work permit or European passport.

Terms and Conditions: This is a one-year maternity cover position. The salary and benefits package will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, reflecting the importance of the position.
