Istanbul International Community School

This school is based in Istanbul, Turkey and is looking for a Primary Music Teacher.

Key Purpose: As a Primary Music Teacher at Istanbul International Community School (IICS), your primary role is to design and facilitate exceptional learning experiences that inspire students to excel academically and develop as caring, compassionate, creative, and internationally-minded individuals.

General Expectations:
  • Serve as a role model of international mindedness, aligned with the IB learner profile, fostering an exceptional and forward-thinking international community.
  • Develop deep knowledge of students and maintain strong positive relationships, supporting their agency in learning through voice, choice, and ownership.
  • Promote language learning and proficiency, including home language development and translanguaging.
  • Contribute to a whole-school environment of inclusion, warmth, support, enjoyment, and high expectations.
  • Engage parents in the learning process and support their involvement in the IICS community.
  • Contribute to professional growth by sharing expertise and participating in school-wide development initiatives.
  • Enrich student experiences through extracurricular clubs, sports coaching, event organization, and support for student and PTA initiatives.


Specific Professional Expectations:
  • Design a comprehensive program of student learning that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and aligned with school curriculum frameworks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and students in curriculum design, ensuring it reflects agreed learning outcomes and adapts to student needs and contemporary contexts.
  • Incorporate students’ prior knowledge and experiences, offering pathways to excellence and supporting diverse abilities and English language proficiency.
  • Foster personalized learning opportunities and demonstrate the interconnectedness of curriculum disciplines with real-world relevance.
  • Continuously engage students in active participation and reflection on their learning.


  • Develop and implement varied assessment practices that allow students to demonstrate learning and achievement against standards.
  • Involve students in creating and evaluating assessments, promoting self- and peer-assessment.
  • Use assessment outcomes to inform planning and teaching strategies.
  • Provide opportunities for students to receive external feedback or engage in authentic assessment experiences.
  • Report student progress as required by school policies and evaluate teaching initiatives through student progress data review.


  • Engage in the school’s appraisal system to receive feedback, reflect on impact, and set professional learning goals.
  • Actively pursue professional learning opportunities within and outside the school environment.
  • Experiment with new teaching ideas and incorporate feedback from students to enhance learning experiences.


Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Identify and collaborate with the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead to address potential safeguarding issues promptly.
  • Adhere to the School’s Safeguarding Policy and fulfill requirements outlined in the IICS Teacher Code of Conduct.


Other Responsibilities:
  • Consult with parents, teachers, special services staff, and administration as needed.
  • Lead after-school activities and fulfill all other duties as outlined in the IICS Teacher Job Description.
