Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Primary Music Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous Music units for all assigned Primary grades. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge Primary curriculum requirements and SMIS’s learning standards.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote musical literacy, practical performance skills, composition, and critical listening.
• Lead and coordinate all primary school musical events, assemblies, and productions throughout the academic year.
• Develop and run a range of engaging Music co-curricular activities (CCAs), such as instrumental clubs or choirs.
• Integrate Catholic values and character development into lessons, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and respect through collaborative music-making.
• Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools relevant to the curriculum. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Collaborate consistently with primary colleagues and the Head of Primary on curriculum planning, resource development, and student holistic development.
• Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional specialist classroom environment conducive to active, joyful music making.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives.
• Ability to use new technologies (e.g., music notation software, recording equipment, composition apps) to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or Primary Education (with a specialization in Music).
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Primary teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Primary Music, with significant, verified experience teaching the Cambridge Primary Music curriculum or equivalent international curricula being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of Primary Music subject content and the ability to lead school performances.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills. Strong instrumental/vocal skills are essential.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
