Role Overview: Secondary ELA Teacher
As a Secondary ELA Teacher, you will design and implement engaging lessons in reading, writing, grammar, and communication. You will empower students to develop analytical thinking skills, creative expression, and a deep appreciation for literature. Your role involves fostering a classroom culture that supports inquiry, collaboration, and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach English Language Arts to secondary school students using the Manitoba curriculum
- Plan and deliver creative, standards-based lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, and speaking abilities
- Assess student learning regularly and provide timely feedback
- Encourage students to think critically and express themselves clearly
- Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Support students’ academic and personal development through mentorship and guidance
- Participate in school events, professional development, and curriculum planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
- Valid teaching license or recognized certification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or Manitoba certification)
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a secondary school setting
- Familiarity with the Manitoba or other international curricula preferred
- Strong understanding of English literature, composition, and educational best practices
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
