Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Literature Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across various secondary levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous English Literature units across Key Stage 4 and A-Level. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level syllabi requirements and Charterhouse’s academic standards.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced textual analysis, sophisticated academic essay writing, confident oral communication.
- Embed Future Ready skills within the Literature curriculum, utilizing diverse texts and comparative studies to promote critical thinking, empathy, and informed debate.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Head of Faculty on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to rigorous academic discussion, creative interpretation, and shared literary discovery.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment and wider school initiatives.
- Use new technologies and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Build strong, communicative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, supporting the school’s community focus.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature, Secondary English Education, or a closely related humanities field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary English teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English Literature, with significant, verified experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level English Literature being mandatory.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the IGCSE and A-Level English Literature syllabi and their assessment requirements.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
