Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across various secondary levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous English units across all secondary key stages. Align instruction strictly with the UK curriculum, IGCSE, and A-Level syllabi requirements (e.g., Cambridge or Edexcel) and GIS’s academic standards.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced textual analysis, sophisticated academic essay writing, confident oral communication, and strong examination technique essential for success in external assessments.
• Integrate literacy and communication skills across all aspects of the curriculum, utilizing diverse literary genres and media to encourage critical interpretation and effective expression.
• Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Head of English on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
• Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom environment conducive to rigorous academic discussion and intellectual inquiry.
• Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment (e.g., debating, creative writing clubs, drama productions) and wider school initiatives.
• Use new technologies and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related humanities field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English, with significant, verified experience teaching IGCSE and A-Level English being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the IGCSE and A-Level English syllabi and their assessment requirements.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
