Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across Key Stage 3 and the Cambridge IGCSE English Language and/or English Literature syllabi. You will directly lead the planning and implementation of the Secondary English curriculum, ensuring students build strong linguistic foundations and are thoroughly prepared for the IGCSE external examinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous English units across Key Stage 3 and IGCSE levels. Align instruction strictly with the adopted British National Curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE syllabi requirements and CRIS’s academic standards.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced textual analysis, sophisticated academic writing, confident oral commentary, and research skills necessary for IGCSE success.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with IGCSE examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Secondary Head on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to rigorous academic discussion, creative writing, and literary exploration.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment (e.g., debate club, school magazine) and wider school initiatives.
- Use new technologies and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Build strong, communicative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, supporting the school’s community focus.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary English teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English, with significant, verified experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE English syllabi being mandatory.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge IGCSE English Language and Literature curriculum and its assessment requirements.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
