About the Role
As a SEN Humanities Preparatory Teacher, you will design and deliver tailored Humanities lessons that support students in the Preparatory level (typically Years 5 to 7). You will create engaging, differentiated lesson plans that meet the learning needs of students with mild to moderate learning challenges. This includes students with ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and other learning profiles.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Humanities subjects (History, Geography, and Social Studies) using multi-sensory, student-centered approaches
- Develop differentiated lesson plans aligned with the British curriculum
- Provide targeted support for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with the school’s therapy team to integrate speech, occupational, and behavioral support into lessons
- Assess and monitor academic progress regularly, adapting instruction to support student growth
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and social-emotional learning
- Communicate regularly with parents and support staff about student progress and goals
- Participate in professional development activities and school-wide initiatives to enhance teaching practice
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Humanities, or a related field
- Teaching certification such as QTS, PGCE, or equivalent
- At least 3 years of teaching experience, preferably with neurodiverse or SEN learners
- Strong knowledge of inclusive teaching methods and the British curriculum
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- High proficiency in written and spoken English
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using educational technology to support learning
