Job Summary:

Bali Island School is seeking a dedicated and experienced EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teacher to support students in developing their English language proficiency. As an EAL Teacher, you will work with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, providing tailored instruction and support to help them succeed academically and integrate effectively into English-medium classrooms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of language acquisition principles, excellent communication skills, and a passion for facilitating language learning in a multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Language Instruction:
   • Plan and deliver English language lessons that cater to the diverse needs and proficiency levels of EAL students.
   • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
2. Differentiated Support:
   • Provide individualized support and small-group instruction to EAL students, addressing their specific language learning goals and challenges.
   • Adapt classroom activities and materials to accommodate students with varying levels of English proficiency and academic backgrounds.
3. Language Assessment:
   • Assess students’ language proficiency using a range of formative and summative assessment methods, including standardized tests, portfolio assessments, and language proficiency scales.
   • Monitor students’ progress over time and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
4. Collaborative Planning:
   • Collaborate with classroom teachers and subject specialists to integrate language support into the mainstream curriculum and ensure alignment with learning objectives.
   • Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning activities to enhance language instruction and support across the school.
5. Cultural Sensitivity:
   • Foster a culturally inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects and values students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
   • Incorporate multicultural perspectives and authentic materials into language instruction to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
6. Parent Communication:
   • Communicate regularly with parents of EAL students to provide updates on their child’s language development, progress, and areas for improvement.
   • Collaborate with parents and guardians to support students’ language learning outside of the classroom and promote a positive home-school partnership.
7. Professional Development:
   • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay abreast of current research, best practices, and trends in language acquisition and EAL instruction.
   • Reflect on teaching practices, seek feedback from colleagues, and pursue opportunities for growth and improvement as an EAL educator.
