This school is based in Singapore, Singapore and is looking for a Secondary Years EAL Teachers.

Position Objective:

As a Secondary Years English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher at XCL World Academy, your primary objective is to provide high-quality language instruction and support to secondary students who are non-native English speakers. You will design and implement engaging, differentiated lessons that facilitate language acquisition, academic success, and social integration within the school community.

Responsibilities:
Curriculum Planning and Delivery:
  • Develop and deliver English language lessons that are aligned with the school’s curriculum standards and the linguistic needs of secondary students.
  • Integrate language learning objectives into content-area instruction across the secondary curriculum, fostering students’ academic language proficiency.
  • Implement a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and language proficiency levels.

 

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Administer language assessments to identify students’ language proficiency levels and monitor their progress over time.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instructional planning and differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on their language development and academic performance, supporting them in setting and achieving language learning goals.

 

Collaboration and Professional Learning:
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, learning support specialists, and other stakeholders to support the academic and linguistic needs of EAL students across the secondary curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your understanding of language acquisition theory, best practices in EAL instruction, and culturally responsive teaching strategies.
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and self-assessment of your teaching practices, seeking feedback from colleagues and incorporating new learning into your instructional approach.

 

Parent and Community Engagement:
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on students’ language progress, academic achievements, and socio-emotional development.
  • Foster positive relationships with EAL families, providing resources and support to facilitate their involvement in their children’s education and the school community.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives aimed at promoting cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion within the school community.

 

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, TESOL, linguistics, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification or qualification recognized by relevant education authorities.
  • Previous experience teaching EAL/ESL in a secondary school setting, preferably within an international school context.
  • Knowledge of language acquisition theory, bilingual education principles, and best practices in EAL instruction.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
