English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher, International School of Hyderabad, India

This school is based in Hyderabad, India and is looking for an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher.

Position Summary:

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher at the International School of Hyderabad (ISH) is responsible for providing instructional support and assistance to students whose primary language is not English. This role involves designing and delivering effective English language instruction, collaborating with classroom teachers, assessing student progress, and fostering an inclusive learning environment conducive to language acquisition and academic success.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design and implement tailored English language instruction for individual students and groups, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Develop engaging lesson plans that promote language development and facilitate active participation.
• Assess students’ English language proficiency using appropriate tools and techniques, providing ongoing feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and support English language learners in accessing grade-level curriculum.
• Work closely with administrators and support staff to ensure the needs of English language learners are met effectively.
• Provide support for English language learners in content-area classes, assisting them in comprehending and engaging with academic material.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity and promotes cultural understanding.
• Stay informed about best practices in English language teaching and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and stakeholders regarding students’ progress and needs.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Linguistics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
3. Teaching certification/license, ESL endorsement, or equivalent qualification.
4. Experience teaching English language learners in an international school setting preferred.
5. Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.
6. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
7. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
8. Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to meeting the diverse needs of English language learners.
9. Knowledge of language acquisition theories, instructional strategies, and assessment practices for English language learners.
10. Familiarity with educational technology tools and resources for language instruction.
