This school is based in Brummana, Lebanon and is looking for a Head of Support for Learning. 

Overview:

Brummana High School is seeking to appoint a full-time Head of Support for Learning for the 2024/25 academic year. This role caters to the specific learning needs of students at both the Lower School and Upper School, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and other learning difficulties. The successful candidate will oversee the school’s Writing Centre and the EFL Department, work closely with the Head of EFL and the Vice-Principal Academic, and teach within the Support for Learning Department as required.

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Oversight:
  1. Lead and manage the Support for Learning Department, ensuring high standards of support for students with specific learning needs.
  2. Oversee the school’s Writing Centre and EFL Department, coordinating efforts to support students’ learning and literacy development.
  3. Collaborate closely with the Head of EFL and the Vice-Principal Academic to develop and implement effective support strategies.
  4. Provide strategic direction and organizational leadership within the department, promoting best practices in inclusive education.

 

Teaching and Student Support:
  1. Teach one-on-one sessions in English, Arabic, Math, or Science for students in Upper School (Grades 7-12) as required.
  2. Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students with learning difficulties, ensuring tailored support to meet their needs.
  3. Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and staff.
  4. Utilize technology effectively to enhance learning and maintain accurate records of students’ progress and development.

 

Community Engagement and Extra-Curricular Activities:
  1. Participate in school and parent meetings to discuss and plan for students’ support needs.
  2. Engage with parents to build strong rapport and provide guidance on supporting their child’s learning at home.
  3. Actively contribute to the school’s extra-curricular programme, including clubs, workshops, and other student support initiatives.

 

Professional Development:
  1. Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service training and professional development activities related to special education.
  2. Share best practices and support the professional growth of colleagues within the department.

 

Administrative:
  1. Submit required reports, including individualized education plans (IEPs), assessments, and progress reports, in a timely manner.
  2. Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures related to special education and student support.

 

Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, or Psychology.
  • Teaching diploma or relevant teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience in inclusive school teaching and supporting students with learning difficulties.
  • Commitment to a child-centred education approach.
  • Strong strategic and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
