This school is based in Jakarta, Indonesia and is looking for a High School Geography/Social Studies
PURPOSE
Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) educators provide memorable experiences for JIS students. JIS High School (HS) teachers are responsible for working collaboratively to develop and implement the HS program at JIS. JIS educators work in a professional learning community to continuously improve teaching practice for the benefit of the students at JIS in pursuit of our Mission, Vision, Values and Dreams.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES and ATTRIBUTES
1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a Social Studies discipline (i.e. history, psychology, politics, economics) and preferably Geography.
2. Teaching credential iin secondary social studies
3. Minimum five years of experience preferably with experience teaching IB/AP courses or similar pre-university courses.
4. Preferred courses include but not limited to IB HL/SL Geography, AP Human Geography; Grade 10World Geography. The ability to offer other courses within the social studies department will be advantageous.
5. Experience using computers and other electronic teaching tools, including Google Suite, web-based resources and learning management systems, such as PowerSchool. For this position: extensive experience and proven ability to teach using Geographic Information Systems will be a substantial advantage.
6. Extensive experience planning, leading and implementing varied and exciting, and educational geographic fieldwork experiences.
7. Experience in a school with a well-defined High School philosophy – international setting preferred.
8. Demonstrated organizational ability and effective communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
9. A willingness and ability to teach Theory of Knowledge (TOK) will be advantageous.
10. Advocate for Inclusion and EAL in the Mainstream.
11. Experience with and commitment to a Professional Learning Community and departmental work as a member of a large Social Studies department
12. Demonstrated background in associating with students outside of the classroom environment – this could include experiences in drama, sports, clubs, service, student leadership, music or other non-academic endeavors.
13. A commitment to international education and developing global citizens of the future.
14. A clear commitment to Child Safeguarding, safety, service learning and environmental stewardship.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Working closely with the Head of Department to plan cooperatively, develop curriculum and maintain a positive, professional school climate
2. Participating in professional learning, including identifying and seeking support when in need
3. Maintaining an open attitude toward new ideas and accepting of others whose experiences, opinions and beliefs may differ
4. Engaging with the JIS professional Growth and Appraisal process
5. Developing pedagogy and classroom management skills that benefit student learning by providing both support and challenge as required.
6. Ensuring effective delivery of curriculum and contribute to the ongoing development of our written curriculum.
7. Providing effective feedback using common formative and summative assessments that help to shape the next learning experience
8. Building positive interpersonal relationships and actively engaging in Child Safeguarding practices
