Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Primary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous English units for all assigned Primary grades. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge Primary English curriculum requirements and SMIS’s learning standards.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote reading fluency, comprehension strategies, confident public speaking, and sophisticated writing across various genres.
- Integrate Catholic values and character development into lessons, fostering respect, compassion, and responsibility.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools aligned with Cambridge Primary standards. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Collaborate consistently with primary colleagues and the Head of Primary on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom environment conducive to active learning and intellectual inquiry.
- Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives, such as leading a reading program, drama club, or debate team.
- Ability to use new technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Primary Education, or a closely related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Primary teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Primary English, with significant, verified experience teaching the Cambridge Primary English curriculum or equivalent international curricula being mandatory.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge Primary English subject content and assessment procedures.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
