Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary Music Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver high-standard music instruction for students in Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You will lead a vibrant learning environment, delivering a curriculum based on the English National Curriculum, including IGCSE and A-Level Music. You will guide students through complex topics such as composition, performance, and musicology. By working within our highly successful department, you will prepare students for top-tier university programs and conservatories worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, engaging music lessons that align fully with IGCSE and A-Level specifications and school core values.
• Develop and execute units of inquiry that promote critical thinking, musical analysis, and technical proficiency in performance and composition.
• Assess student progress consistently using examination board rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for improvement.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to experiment with sound and practice technical mastery.
• Collaborate consistently with secondary colleagues and leadership to refine curriculum delivery and share innovative teaching strategies.
• Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
• Utilize new technologies, such as music production software (Logic Pro, Sibelius) and digital recording tools, to enhance the quality of teaching and support student research.
• Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as orchestras, choirs, ensembles, or school-wide musical productions.
• Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and international subject-specific workshops.
• Build strong relationships with all members of the school community to foster a sense of belonging and mutual respect.

Qualification

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary music teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary music position, preferably within the English National Curriculum framework.
• Subject Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of modern music pedagogy, including performance, composition, and aural skills.
• Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
• Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
