Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Middle/High School Biology Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver high-standard science instruction across the secondary levels. You will lead a dynamic learning environment, delivering a program that bridges the California Common Core Standards for Middle School and the Cambridge iGCSE Biology syllabus for the High School phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, engaging Biology lessons that align fully with California Common Core and Cambridge iGCSE standards.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote inquiry-based learning and the practical application of biological theories.
- Direct and supervise safe, rigorous laboratory experiments and student-led research projects.
- Assess student progress consistently using formative and summative tools to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for examination preparation.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to investigate real-world scientific challenges.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues to refine curriculum delivery and share innovative teaching strategies across the secondary school.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as digital microscopes, simulations, and data-logging software, to enhance the quality of instruction.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as science fairs, STEM clubs, or environmental projects.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and international professional development workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related field of education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary science education.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary Biology teaching position or a similar role.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with international curricula, specifically the California Standards or Cambridge iGCSE programs.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community.
