Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of High School Biology Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard science instruction. You will lead students through the study of life, from molecular biology and genetics to ecology and human physiology. In the High School, you will prepare students for rigorous external assessments and university-level science while maintaining a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere. You will emphasize inquiry-based learning and ensure students develop the practical skills necessary for sophisticated scientific research.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous High School Biology courses that ensure full alignment with IB Diploma Programme requirements and US-based curriculum standards.
- Develop and execute engaging laboratory experiments that promote the scientific method, data analysis, and technical report writing.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools to drive measurable academic progress and conceptual mastery.
- Collaborate consistently with Secondary colleagues and department leadership on curriculum mapping, resource development, and interdisciplinary STEAM initiatives.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and highly organized learning environment that encourages students to explore complex biological theories.
- Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives.
- Utilize new technologies and collaborative research platforms, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents to build strong, professional relationships within the ISB community.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology or Secondary Science Education with a focus on life sciences.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., US State License, QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Biology at the High School level, with specific experience in the IB Diploma Programme (SL and HL) highly preferred.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of IB Biology criteria, inquiry-based science pedagogy, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
