Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of High School English Language Arts Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver a rigorous secondary English curriculum based on American Common Core standards. You will lead a dynamic learning environment where students develop sophisticated literary analysis, rhetorical skills, and academic writing proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality English lessons that align with the American Common Core standards and school learning objectives.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote deep inquiry into world literature, composition, and media literacy.
- Cultivate a positive classroom culture that celebrates student voice and fosters a growth mindset.
- Assess student progress consistently using formative and summative tools to track growth and provide personalized feedback for college readiness.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating learning environment that encourages students to express complex ideas with confidence.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and specialists to ensure vertical alignment and a cohesive English program across grade levels.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as digital archives and collaborative writing platforms, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as debate clubs, creative writing workshops, or student publications.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-led training and international literacy workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature, Language, or a related field of secondary education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary English.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a high school English teaching position.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with American standards (Common Core) and international teaching practices.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
