Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary Science Teacher specializing in Chemistry and Biology. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver a rigorous science curriculum. You will lead a dynamic learning environment, primarily delivering the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to ensure students develop a deep conceptual understanding of scientific principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality Science lessons that align fully with the IB MYP framework and assessment criteria for Chemistry and Biology.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote inquiry-based learning and the practical application of scientific theories.
- Supervise and lead safe, rigorous laboratory experiments that enhance student understanding of complex biological and chemical phenomena.
- Assess student progress consistently using IB-specific rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for success.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive laboratory environment that encourages students to investigate scientific challenges with confidence.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and IB Coordinators to refine curriculum delivery and ensure vertical alignment.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as data-logging software and virtual simulations, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as science fairs, STEM clubs, or environmental projects.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and international IB workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field of science education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary education.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary Science teaching position, ideally within the IB MYP.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with international curricula and the specific requirements of the International Baccalaureate.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
