Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of IGCSE History Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across various secondary levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous History units across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge International syllabi requirements and MIGS’s academic standards.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced historical analysis, source-based evaluation, sophisticated academic essay writing, and strong examination technique essential for success in IGCSE assessments.
- Integrate global perspectives and diverse historical contexts into teaching to foster international mindedness and deep understanding of the modern world.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with Cambridge examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Head of Secondary on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom environment conducive to rigorous academic discussion and intellectual inquiry.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to enriching the extracurricular program (e.g., historical trips, debating clubs) and wider school initiatives.
- Use new technologies (e.g., digital archives, historical simulations) and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Secondary Education (History focus), or a closely related humanities field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary History, with significant, verified experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE History syllabi being mandatory.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge IGCSE History syllabus and its assessment requirements.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
