Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary History Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous Secondary History courses, focusing heavily on IGCSE preparation. Align instruction strictly with Cambridge specifications.
• Develop and execute engaging lessons that promote critical evaluation of historical evidence, nuanced understanding of cause and consequence, and effective historical communication.
• Assess student progress consistently using formative and summative tools relevant to the Cambridge exam board. Provide timely, individualized, and constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement in analytical and essay writing skills.
• Collaborate consistently with Secondary colleagues and the Humanities department leadership on curriculum alignment, resource development, and tracking student examination readiness.
• Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom environment conducive to active discussion, debate, and intellectual rigor.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives, such as leading a debating club, Model United Nations (MUN), or historical research projects (CCAs).
• Ability to use new technologies (e.g., digital archives, historical databases) to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community.

Qualification

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, History Education, or a closely related Humanities field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary/High School teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary History, with significant, verified experience teaching Cambridge International IGCSE History and/or A-Level History being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of IGCSE History content and the rigorous expectations of the Cambridge International curriculum.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
