Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons in English Language and Literature. You will teach diverse courses, including IB MYP Language and Literature and IB DP English A: Language and Literature (HL/SL).

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, concept-driven English Language and Literature units and lessons across the MYP and DP levels. Align instruction strictly with the specific IB MYP and DP syllabi and assessment requirements.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced literacy skills, critical textual analysis, sophisticated academic writing, and confident oral communication essential for examination success.
• Assess student work consistently using IB criteria and school standards, focusing heavily on analytical depth and communication effectiveness (especially the IB criteria A, B, C, D in MYP). Provide constructive, detailed feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Collaborate consistently with Secondary colleagues and the IB Coordinators on curriculum articulation, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
• Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to reading, discussion, and writing workshops.
• Actively participate in professional development specific to the IB MYP/DP and English education, and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment (e.g., student publications, debate team) and wider school initiatives.
• Use new technologies and diverse resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
• Build strong, communicative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, supporting the school’s community focus.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary English teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English, ideally within an authorized IB MYP and/or DP school. Specific, verified experience teaching IB DP English A is highly desirable.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the IB MYP and DP English Language and Literature frameworks and assessment criteria.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
