Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous English units for Years 7 through 13. Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge International syllabi requirements and SISM’s humanistic educational values.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote advanced critical reading skills, sophisticated academic writing, confident oral communication, and strong examination technique essential for success in IGCSE and A-Level assessments.
• Integrate global literature and diverse perspectives into lessons, supporting the Soka philosophy’s focus on international understanding and value creation.
• Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with Cambridge examination requirements and marking schemes. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Head of Secondary/Pre-University on curriculum mapping, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
• Maintain a positive, highly organized, and professional classroom environment conducive to rigorous academic discussion and intellectual inquiry.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives, such as leading a literary or debate co-curricular activity (CCA).
• Utilize new technologies and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related humanities field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary English teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English, with significant, verified experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE and/or A-Level English syllabi being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge International English syllabi and their assessment requirements.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
