Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard instruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous Secondary English units, including examination courses (IGCSE, and later AS/A-Level). Align instruction strictly with the Cambridge curriculum frameworks and GIGIS’s academic standards.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote critical reading, sophisticated academic writing, rhetorical analysis, and strong examination technique essential for success in external assessments.
• Integrate literature and non-literary texts from diverse global and cultural backgrounds to encourage critical interpretation and effective expression.
• Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools aligned with Cambridge standards. Maintain accurate records and track individual progress, implementing differentiated learning plans effectively.
• Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and school leadership on curriculum mapping, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives, such as leading a debate club or literary society (CCAs).
• Ability to use new technologies (e.g., academic databases, digital annotation tools) to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary English, with significant, verified experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE English syllabi being mandatory. Experience with A-Level is highly desirable.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge Secondary and IGCSE English frameworks and their assessment requirements.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
