ACA provides a K-12 education based on American standards (specifically Minnesota’s standards).
Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary History and Social Studies Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver a rigorous social studies curriculum based on the Minnesota state standards. You will lead a dynamic learning environment where middle and high school students develop sophisticated historical thinking, geographical awareness, and civic understanding.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality History and Social Studies lessons that align with the Minnesota state standards and school learning objectives.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote deep inquiry into historical events, economic systems, and human geography.
- Cultivate a positive classroom culture that celebrates diverse perspectives and respects Islamic values.
- Assess student progress consistently using formative and summative tools to track growth and provide personalized feedback for college readiness.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating learning environment that encourages students to evaluate primary and secondary sources with confidence.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and specialists to ensure vertical alignment and a cohesive humanities program.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as digital archives, interactive maps, and collaborative research platforms, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as Model United Nations, debate clubs, or historical research projects.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-led training and international social studies workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field of secondary education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary social studies.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary History or Social Studies teaching position.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with American standards (specifically Minnesota) and international teaching practices.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
