Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary Science (Biology) Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver high-standard biology instruction for students across Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and the Sixth Form. You will lead a dynamic learning environment that prioritizes practical investigation and the application of biological theories to global challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, engaging biology lessons that align fully with the IGCSE, A-Level, and IB Diploma curriculum frameworks.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote deep conceptual understanding and the development of experimental design skills.
- Guide DP students through the Internal Assessment (IA) process, providing expert supervision for their independent biological investigations.
- Assess student progress consistently using IGCSE and IB-aligned rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for examination preparation.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive laboratory environment that encourages students to experiment with emerging scientific techniques.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and coordinators to refine curriculum delivery and share innovative teaching strategies.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as digital microscopes, data-logging sensors, and virtual simulations, to enhance the quality of instruction.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as science fairs, eco-clubs, or biology Olympiads.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and official international professional development workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary education.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary science position, preferably with IGCSE, A-Level, or IBDP instruction.
- Subject Knowledge: Show strong knowledge of the secondary biology syllabus and a deep understanding of international curricula.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
