Role Overview
The ideal candidate is motivated and experienced individual to fill the crucial role of Secondary Science Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons across various science disciplines. You will guide students through the scientific method, practical investigations, and the critical evaluation of evidence, aligned with the NZC Achievement Objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, inquiry-based Secondary Science units and activities. Align instruction strictly with the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) achievement objectives and secondary science best practices.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote effective scientific communication essential for senior assessment programs.
- Assess student learning consistently using a range of formative and summative tasks. Provide constructive, detailed feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring students strictly follow safety procedures during all experiments.
- Collaborate effectively with Secondary colleagues, the Head of Department, and other specialist teachers to ensure curriculum coherence and integration.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment and wider school initiatives.
- Use new technologies and specialized laboratory equipment effectively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Build strong, communicative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, supporting the school’s community focus.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Science field (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics), Secondary Science Education, or a closely related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, New Zealand Teaching Council Registration, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary Science teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Secondary Science Teacher, ideally within an international school. Familiarity with the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and/or NCEA assessment framework is highly desirable.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of international Secondary Science curricula and student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogy.
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom/laboratory management and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
