The Dewey Schools (TDS) is a pioneering bilingual and international school system in Vietnam, named after the American philosopher John Dewey. It provides education from Early Years through High School (ages 3–18) across multiple campuses in Hanoi and Hai Phong. TDS maintains a strategic partnership with Mount Vernon School (USA) to deliver integrated American-style programs. The Tay Ho Tay Campus is an authorized IB World School, offering the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).
Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of IB DP Economics Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver high-standard economics instruction across the IB Diploma Programme. You will lead a dynamic learning environment, delivering both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) curricula.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, engaging Economics lessons that align fully with IB DP and MYP curriculum frameworks.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote deep conceptual understanding of market forces and government intervention.
- Guide DP students through the Internal Assessment (IA) portfolio process, providing expert supervision for their economic commentaries.
- Assess student progress consistently using IB-aligned rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for examination preparation.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to investigate real-world economic issues and develop academic independence.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues to refine curriculum delivery and share innovative teaching strategies across the secondary school.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as data visualization tools, economic simulations, and the school’s LMS, to enhance the quality of instruction.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as entrepreneurship clubs, investment competitions, or university guidance sessions.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and official IB professional development workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field of education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary education.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary Economics position, specifically within an IB DP context.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong knowledge of the IB DP Economics syllabus and assessment requirements.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
