Role Overview

The ideal candidate is motivated and experienced individual to fill the crucial role of Middle School Design Technology Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons in Design Thinking, digital media, basic engineering principles, and practical application (e.g., woodwork, robotics, digital design). You will teach diverse courses, which may align with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Design framework principles, emphasizing the design cycle and iteration.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, project-based Design Technology units across the Middle School. Align instruction strictly with relevant international curriculum standards and the school’s inquiry-based approach.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote the design cycle, from investigating and defining a problem to developing, creating, and evaluating solutions.
• Assess student work consistently using authentic project assessment criteria and school standards. Provide constructive, detailed feedback to drive measurable improvement in design process and technical execution.
• Manage and maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive workshop/makerspace environment, ensuring all students follow strict safety procedures with equipment.
• Collaborate effectively with Middle School colleagues across subjects to integrate DT skills into broader interdisciplinary units.
• Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment and wider school initiatives.
• Use new technologies appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of design and technical learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design Technology, Industrial Arts, Engineering Education, or a closely related field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, US State Certification, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary or Middle School Design/Technology.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Middle School Design Technology, ideally within an international school setting. Familiarity with the IB MYP Design curriculum is highly desirable.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of international Design Technology curricula and safety standards in workshops/makerspaces.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom/workshop management and superb communication skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
