Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary Computer Science Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver a rigorous computing curriculum based on the National Curriculum for England. You will lead a vibrant learning environment where students develop deep technical proficiency, computational thinking, and advanced programming skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality Computer Science lessons that align with the British National Curriculum and exam board specifications.
- Develop and execute instructional units that promote proficiency in languages such as Python or Java, alongside hardware and networking concepts.
- Cultivate a positive classroom culture that celebrates innovation, debugging perseverance, and a growth mindset.
- Assess student progress consistently using diverse formative and summative tools to track technical growth and provide personalized feedback.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating learning environment that utilizes our specialized computer laboratories.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues to ensure vertical alignment and a cohesive computing program across all secondary year groups.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student academic achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as cloud-based IDEs and robotics kits, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as coding clubs, e-safety workshops, or hackathons.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-led training and international educational technology workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field of secondary education.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) for secondary computing.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary Computer Science teaching position.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong familiarity with the National Curriculum for England, IGCSE, and A-Level frameworks.
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent laboratory management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language Proficiency: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
