Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary IB Mathematics Teacher. This position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver high-standard mathematics instruction for students in Middle and High School. You will lead a dynamic learning environment, primarily delivering the Ontario Mathematics curriculum for junior years and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Mathematics syllabus for senior students.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, engaging mathematics lessons that align fully with Ontario and IBDP standards.
- Develop and execute units of study that promote inquiry-based learning, mathematical modeling, and real-world application.
- Assess student progress consistently using standard-aligned rubrics to track academic growth and provide personalized feedback for university preparation.
- Guide students through the IB Internal Assessment (IA) process, supporting them in producing high-quality mathematical explorations.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to experiment with different mathematical strategies.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues to refine curriculum delivery and share innovative teaching strategies.
- Communicate effectively with parents to build strong partnerships and provide regular updates on student achievement and well-being.
- Utilize new technologies, such as graphic display calculators (GDC), graphing software, and digital learning platforms, to enhance the quality of teaching.
- Proactively enrich the curriculum by leading wider school initiatives, such as math competitions, STEM clubs, or logic workshops.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth by participating in school-wide training and international IB/Ontario professional development workshops.
Qualification
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent); an Ontario Certificate of Qualification is highly preferred.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a secondary mathematics position, preferably within an international school.
- Subject Knowledge: Show strong knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and the IB Diploma Programme Mathematics syllabus (AA and AI).
- Professional Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication and collaboration skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Technical Ability: Demonstrate the ability to use modern technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
- Personal Attributes: Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the school community and developing wider school initiatives.
