Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Secondary Physical Education Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard practical and theoretical lessons across Key Stage 3 and the Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education syllabus. You will directly lead the planning and implementation of the Secondary PE curriculum, ensuring students develop strong motor skills, tactical awareness, and a theoretical understanding of health, anatomy, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach high-quality, rigorous practical and theoretical PE units across Key Stage 3 and IGCSE levels. Align instruction strictly with the adopted British National Curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE syllabi requirements and CRIS’s academic standards.
- Develop and execute strategies that promote technical skill development in a broad range of individual and team sports, strong tactical understanding, leadership skills, and an awareness of the physical and psychological benefits of exercise.
- Guide and prepare IGCSE students thoroughly through the demanding theoretical content and practical assessment requirements, focusing on anatomy, physiology, training principles, and socio-cultural influences.
- Assess student learning consistently using formative and summative tools, strictly aligned with IGCSE examination requirements and practical assessment criteria. Provide timely, constructive feedback to drive measurable improvement.
- Collaborate consistently with department colleagues and the Secondary Head on curriculum planning, moderation, resource development, and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive physical environment, ensuring the proper use and maintenance of sports equipment and facilities.
- Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment and wider school initiatives.
- Use new technologies and diverse learning resources appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.
Qualifications
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Secondary Education (PE focus), or a closely related field.
- Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary PE teaching.
- Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Secondary PE, with significant, verified experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education syllabus being mandatory.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of the Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education curriculum and its assessment requirements (Theory and Practical).
- Skills: Maintain excellent classroom and practical management, a high level of physical fitness, and superb communication skills.
- Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
