Role Overview

The ideal candidate is motivated and experienced individual to fill the crucial role of Middle School English Teacher. This specialist position demands a dedicated educator who can effectively design, manage, and deliver engaging, high-standard lessons in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Grammar. You will guide students through the analysis of diverse literary and informational texts, emphasizing critical thinking and clear expression. Your courses may align with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) principles, focusing on the development of communication skills and conceptual understanding.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach high-quality, project-based English Language and Literature units across the Middle School. Align instruction strictly with relevant international curriculum standards and the school’s inquiry-based approach.
• Develop and execute strategies that promote critical reading, comprehension, academic writing (narrative, explanatory, argumentative), and effective peer feedback.
• Assess student work consistently using authentic task criteria and school standards. Provide constructive, detailed feedback to drive measurable improvement in literacy skills.
• Maintain a safe, highly organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to reading, writing, and thoughtful discussion.
• Collaborate effectively with Middle School colleagues, specialist teachers, and the EAL department to ensure literacy skills are reinforced across the curriculum.
• Actively participate in professional development sessions and proactively contribute to curriculum enrichment (e.g., student publications, writing competitions) and wider school initiatives.
• Use new technologies (digital writing platforms, research tools, media analysis) appropriately and creatively to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

Qualifications

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education (English focus), or a closely related humanities field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (QTS, PGCE, US State Certification, or equivalent) specifically for Secondary or Middle School English.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience teaching Middle School English, ideally within an international school setting. Familiarity with the IB MYP or similar international curriculum framework is highly desirable.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of international Middle School English curricula and best practices in literacy development.
• Skills: Maintain excellent classroom management and superb communication skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
