Role Overview

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Head of Kindergarten. This leadership position demands a dedicated professional who can effectively manage the Early Years phase, mentor staff, and ensure exceptional pedagogical practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership for all aspects of the Kindergarten curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Lead and manage the Early Years teaching staff, conducting performance reviews, and facilitating collaborative planning sessions.
• Ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning are consistently applied across all Kindergarten classrooms, with a focus on holistic and play-based pedagogy.
• Develop and execute engaging strategies that promote the core principles of the Finnish curriculum, including student autonomy and well-being.
• Oversee and manage the Kindergarten budget, resources, and continuous improvement projects.
• Communicate effectively and proactively with students, parents, colleagues, and the School Director regarding departmental strategy and student needs.
• Be independent, self-motivated, and proactive in enriching the curriculum and developing wider school initiatives.
• Ability to use new technologies for both administrative leadership tasks and pedagogical enhancement.
• Ability to build strong relationships with all members of the school community, upholding the school’s supportive ethos.

Qualification

• Education: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Certification: Possess a valid teaching license or official certification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) specifically for Early Years teaching.
• Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of experience in a formal Early Years Leadership role (e.g., Head of EYFS, Head of Kindergarten, or Assistant Principal), with significant, verified experience leading an international Early Years curriculum (IEYC, EYFS, or similar) being mandatory.
• Curriculum Knowledge: Show strong, demonstrated knowledge of Early Years pedagogy, leadership best practices, and ideally, the Finnish educational philosophy.
• Skills: Maintain excellent organizational, motivational, and communication skills.
• Language: Be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
